My SONDORS Life: Photographer Brian Patrick Box Chases Storms on his SONDORS

Owner Spotlight Featuring Brian Patrick Box, February 2019 Photo Contest Winner

My SONDORS experience has been a very good one. I acquired my first SONDORS ebike through a friend almost 4 years ago. He had ordered one and was impatient so he found a used one locally in Texas and purchased it. Then having seen how much I enjoyed riding it, he gave it to me. It's an original SONDORS and has never failed me and I am quite rough on it. I use it mostly for joy riding or quick trips to town but it has proven a valuable tool in photographing storms around my home.

"People love the bike and I get compliments on it all the time"

Before my SONDORS I did most of my photography on foot—at least in the area surrounding my home in Arkansas. Many times I would find myself in danger, usually a cell popping up between me and safety or a storm growing large enough to consume me. I started taking the bike out for a quick way home. Not any safer in theory, but at least quicker. I had been doing it for a while and thought one night I should try and get the bike in the shot. I got lucky and we had a particularly stormy week so I decided to try for a shot. It took about three hours and I almost gave up many times due to the humidity and mosquitoes. But...then it happened, and I couldn't believe it. It was exactly as I imagined it.

I live in a very rural area of southeast Arkansas just north of a small town called Humphrey. People love the bike and I get compliments on it all the time. Most people around here have never even heard of SONDORS, let alone seen an electric bike. They ask lots of questions, usually how fast and how far and how long to charge it. It's a really fun, really awesome bike! It made it easier to get places I wouldn't normally walk, I can outrun most wildlife in the area when needed. My SONDORS is great and I also stay in shape from riding it. Plus, my knee used to pop with every step, riding the bike is a good low impact way of solving that issue. I also have Crohn's disease and the bike has made my range of photography a lot further than just on foot.
